Gurman: Apple is working on an extreme sports Apple Watch

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on an “extreme sports” version of the Apple Watch that will have a bigger screen and a more abusive metal case.

Targeted at athletes, hikers and others who experience more extreme environments while wearing the Apple Watch, the new watch will be Apple’s largest device to date, he said.

The watch is said to measure nearly 2 inches diagonally, which is larger than the 1.9-inch diagonal size of the current Apple Watch Series 7 and the planned Apple Watch Series 8. It will have about 7 percent more screen area than the 45mm Apple Watch Series 7, with a display resolution of 410 x 502 pixels.

Gurman speculates that Apple may use the extra display area to provide more health indicators on the surface of the Apple Watch.

It’s unclear how Apple will name the new watch, but it will feature a stronger metal than aluminum for buy app reviews improved impact resistance and as much protection as possible. In addition, it will use a screen that is less fragile and will also include a larger battery for longer battery life.

The sports-focused Apple Watch will ship alongside the standard Apple Watch Series 8 and the Apple Watch SE, which is expected to launch in 2022. Aside from the larger and more durable body, the Apple Watch Sport will function like any other Apple Watch and will have the same features as the S8.

IT House has reported that Ross Young of DSCC, a global display research agency, and Jeff Pu of Haitong International Securities said that Apple is developing an Apple Watch with a larger display, possibly the S8.

Last October, Ross Young said the Apple Watch Series 8 would be available in three display sizes. This year, Ross Young further revealed that the additional display size added to the Apple Watch Series 8 is 1.99 inches.

In addition, analyst Jeff Pu mentioned that Apple supplier Luxshare Precision will be the “sole supplier” of the high-end 2-inch Apple Watch Series 8 this year, and the 2-inch he said should be rounded up.

It is worth mentioning that the two sizes of the Apple Watch Series 7 are 1.691 inches and 1.901 inches. The new display size will increase by 0.089 inches, which is about a 5% increase.

Gurman previously said that other hardware changes to the Apple Watch Series 8 are “likely” to be minor. The Apple Watch Series 8 was previously rumored to use the same S6 chip as the Apple Watch Series 6, making it the first Apple Watch to use the same processor for the third year in a row. In addition, it is reported that both the Apple Watch Series 8 and the new rugged version will have body temperature detection.

Rumor has it that the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature an S8 chip similar to the previous S7 and S6, as well as an updated low-power mode and new health features to support functions such as temperature measurement.
